Seventy-one percent of non-Orthodox Jews married since the year 2000 married a non-Jew. Forty-eight percent of Jewish millennials have one parent who is not Jewish. Intermarriage is a reality of American Jewish life in the 21st century. Alicia Chandler
Alicia Chandler is a writer, speaker, and consultant working on the issue of inclusion of intermarried couples and interfaith families in Jewish spaces. She is the founder of Multifaith Life, LLC, a consulting firm that exists to help Jewish institutions and the Jewish community adapt to the increase in interfaith families.
After a successful legal career as General Counsel - Continuing for Trinity Health, Alicia decided to leave her legal career and return to academia to study interfaith families in the Jewish community. Alicia is currently a graduate student in Sociology at Wayne State University in Detroit. She has also completed coursework through the Interfaith Families Jewish Engagement program at Hebrew College in Boston.
Alicia Chandler has held numerous leadership roles within the Jewish community, including President of the Jewish Community Relations Council/AJC, inaugural co-chair of the American Jewish Committee’s Global ACCESS Steering Committee, member of the Board of Governors of the American Jewish Committee, member of the Board of Governors of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, among others. Additionally, Alicia was selected by AJC as a delegate to the 2009 Durban Review Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
Alicia graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School. She also has a Bachelor in Business Administration from the University of Michigan Business School, where she graduated with high distinction.
Alicia is a member of the 2017 Oakland County Elite 40 Under 40, past recipient of AJC Detroit’s Community Leadership Award and Wexner Heritage Fellow.
Alicia is a native Michigander and devoted Wolverine. She is married to her college sweetheart and has two school-aged children.

A Love-Fate Relationship; Exploring Intermarriage: 01/13/21-02/10/21
Intermarriage can be mistakenly discussed as a modern phenomenon, but intermarriage has existed since the earliest days of Judaism. Join us for an overview of intermarriage in Judaism, going from some of the famous and infamous biblical intermarriages to the biblical texts addressing intermarriage, to the opinions of the ancient rabbis, into the modern-day demographics and other contemporary issues relating to intermarriage.
